Annual Education Report - Rankin

Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER), which provides key information on the 2024-25 educational progress for Rankin Elementary. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about accountability, student assessment, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Principal Christensen for assistance.
The Rankin AER is available for you to review electronically or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.
For the 2025-26 school year, schools were identified based on previous years’ performance using definitions and labels as required in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) school is one that had at least one underperforming student group in 2024-25. An Additional Targeted Support (ATS) school is one that had at least one student group performing at the same level as the lowest 5% of all schools in the state in 2021-22. A Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school is one whose performance was in the lowest 5% of all schools in the state, had a graduation rate at or below 67%, failed to exit CSI status in 2024-25, or failed to exit ATS status in 2021-22. Some schools are not identified with any of these labels. In these cases, no status label is given.

The data shows that Rankin Elementary greatly exceeds the state average for student proficiency in mathematics. Our average in ELA is the same as the state average, with 47% of the students proficient in ELA. Our averages in science and social studies, which are only assessed in 5th grade, are below the state average. Our third-grade students, on the other hand, far exceeded state average with 92% of our third graders scoring proficient in reading and 92% of our third graders scoring proficient in mathematics. We use previous data coupled with current NWEA data to guide our instruction and interventions. We have continued to implement interventions to assist our lowest performing students as we work to close the gap. We also added a science and social studies subcommittee that meets regularly as well as a special monthly event for science and another special monthly event for social studies. We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff, and the community with this effort.
State law requires that we also report additional information.
- Rankin Elementary School is in our fifth year of a school improvement cycle as we recently switched to MICIP as our school improvement platform. Our math and writing goals remained the same as last year. We are continuing our emphasis on direct instruction of Tier 2 vocabulary. We have added an emphasis on 3 Read Protocol as a strategy for students to use when solving story problems in mathematics. We added a Whole Child goal based on a Needs Assessment with the goal being to increase instructional time and engagement by building relationships and understanding character traits.
- Rankin Elementary School has a highly qualified team of teachers that actively pursues educational excellence for all students. Our teachers work together in Professional Learning Community (PLC) continually to support our students’ achievement and academic growth.
- Rankin Elementary measures student achievement in multiple ways. We use the NWEA assessment to determine annual student academic growth.
- Rankin Elementary prides itself with communicating with parents and guardians as evident in the chart of participation at Parent-Teacher Conferences held bi-annually:
